BCCI’s National Cricket Academy land deal in Karnataka under scanner

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has landed in trouble over a land deal in Karnataka.
Australian cricketers Shane Watson (R) aThe BCCI had purchased 49 acres of land from the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) for a price of about Rs.50 crore, for the development of the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

But with a series of Public Interest Litigations against the purchase of the land, the High Court of Karnataka has looked into the deal, and termed it as illegal.
The interim president of the BCCI, Mr.Jagmohan Dalmiya has said that the issue had been discussed at a meeting of the working committee and the BCCI will appeal to a higher court in hope of a favourable verdict.
“The working committee has been asked to take action. We may go to court as huge amount of money is involved. I have entrusted BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel and chief administrative officer Ratnakar Shetty to look into the matter.” said Mr.Dalmiya, as reported by The New Indian Express.
“We have paid the money to a government organisation. But there is problem with the deal. We would like to get our money back,” he added.
The NCA is presently situated in the M.Chinnaswamy stadium premises in Bangalore, and the move to buy land was initiated by the BCCI in the hope of creating a larger and advanced training facility for the players.
