This is how India can climb higher in ODI rankings

India have become a dominating side in Tests under Virat Kohli as they have been winning consistently and have become the No.1 ranking side in the longest format of the game aftter their 3-0 whitewash against New Zealand.
However, India has failed to manage the same domination in the limited overs format as the team had hardly won any series’ in the recent years despite a couple of series wins against Zimbabwe. The result meant the team is currently at No.4 position in the ODI rankings.

The Dhoni led side will lock horns against New Zealand in the upcoming ODI series as they can move higher in the ODI rankings with an impressive result in the series.
New Zealand are currently the third ranked side in ODIs with 114 rating points while India have managed only 110 rating points. Australia and South Africa are the top ranked sides in the format despite Australia losing 5-0 they managed to keep hold of the top ranking.
India trail by 3 points with New Zealand as they go into the season and they move to third ranking if they can beat the Black Caps with a margin of 4-1 or more which means a whitewash.
Considering the form of New Zealand in India in the recent tours, the Blues winning 4-2 is not a hard task as they have managed to outrun Kiwis in the recent ODI series that happened in India.
However, the biggest worry for Indian fans is the recent form of Team India in ODI format as they have lost 4-1 against Australia earlier this year coupled with disappointing losses to South Africa and Bangladesh last year.
The Indian team were handed another blow as Suresh raina was ruled out of the first ODI as Dhoni will have to find a potential batting order which could win the game at Dharmasala and the series will also be crucial for Dhoni as a captain as Virat Kohli has been very impressive in Tests which has put selectors in a dilemma considering the team’s performances in ODIs off late.
Scenario- India will need to win 4-1 or 5-0 to move to 3rd position in ODIs.
