The demonitization move of the Indian Government which has rendered Rs.500 and Rs.1000 currency notes invaluable is taking its toll on Tamil cinema. Quite a few prominent films that have announced the release date well in advance have postponed their release now and uncertainty hangs over the release plans of many other films. The currency crunch has affected the cash transactions between Producers, distributors and exhibitors and also the footfall to theaters is considerably reduced as people would not prefer to spend on movie tickets at this time of cash crunch.
