A couple of days after BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary criticised GM Cricket Operations Saba Karim and the SC-appointed Committee of Administrators for deciding to relax the one-year rule for wards of government employees to be considered local players in the middle of the season, the latter has come under fresh fire.
And this time the person miffed with frequent rule changes this season is former India skipper Sourav Ganguly, who heads the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and BCCI's technical committee. In an e-mail to Choudhary on Monday, Ganguly has conveyed his displeasure on the issue.
Referring to Choudhary's e-mail to Karim on Saturday on frequent rule changes in domestic cricket this season, Ganguly, responding to a trail mail on the issue, says: "Dear Amitabh ji, I am totally agreeable to this and have brought to the notice of the concerned people. I am really surprised it goes through without consultation. Even the decisions taken at the technical committee meeting have been overlooked and new rules have been followed.
"It is complete chaos and against the basic constitution of the BCCI where the respective committees are holding meetings. Hopefully, the CoA will understand the importance," wrote Ganguly.
The CoA has revised the rules thrice this season already. Before the Vijay Hazare Trophy, it had relaxed the one-year requirement (work or study) to play for a state in Puducherry's case, but had to backtrack after protests from all the other teams. Before the Ranji Trophy, the CoA decided to relax the one-year rule for wards of government employees to be considered local players, and also gave a green signal to Sikkim to play three outstation players.
